Francesca was an absolutely amazing guide through Naples backstreets and we got to explore so many places that we wouldn’t have on our own. An unexpected highlight was getting a sign painted by local artist Pasquale who makes a lot of the signs you see throughout the city. But the really amazing part of the tour was Francesca’s knowledge of the city, the food, and the culture. She answered all of our questions and by the end we had made a bunch of new friends. Cannot recommend taking this tour enough.

Chiara was genuinely awesome. We weren't sure what to expect, but this was definitely one of our favorite days in Italy.

Our tour started with a variety of sweets and caffee, of course, followed by a walk to a local meat and cheese store that had by far the best mozzarella I've had.

We then walked along seeing various local sites, hearing about the culture and lifestyle, and stopped for a bit of street food as well as went into a local fish market to meet the owner and try cod. Wasn't 100% sure on that one, but I ate all of it.

We progressed to other shops, a farmer's market and locker, and even a factory to sample the breads and see how it was made.

On our way to one of the best pizza locations in the area (lots of awards and the owner was super sweet), we also stopped at an artist studio but think more sign art. Pretty interesting and have souvenirs now, too!

We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed the day and the others in our group. Super fun, interesting, educational, and filling. Definitely recommend. Thank you, Chiara, for such an exquisite day and adventure. You were awesome!

What an amazing experience we had with Sonia this evening. She was so knowledgeable and friendly and made us feel very welcome in this incredible city. We got to try so many foods and at places we otherwise would have likely overlooked completely. Such a unique experience and a wonderful lasting memory. Can't recommend enough and if you can get it booked with Sonia, she's the best!

It’s hard to drive in and out of Naples. SO DON’T. Heavy traffic, narrow streets, random driving habits. It can fray your nerves. A train or bus would be easier.
Naples has a lot of history and is interesting. But yes, it’s organized chaos! That’s the excitement of being there. Once I stayed for 5 days. The worse part was that many of the streets and sidewalks are made of volcanic rock blocks. You MUST wear comfortable sneakers with support and cushion. The back streets are narrow with shops, locals, tourists, cars, and motor scooters all trying to accommodate each other. Lots of interesting and artistic graffiti on many walls. Don't let bad reviews scare you. Go for the day. Take public transportation in and out. Walk in comfortable clothes and FOOT WEAR, Enjoy Naples culture, disorderly ordered drivers, shops, food, noise and all the full of life experiences around you. I was there for 5 days and 4 nights in the harbor area. Recently we stopped for a day trip. Only thing I can match it to is Times Square NYC, Old Delhi, India.

As a traveler, a local food, culture, and city tour with Culinary Backstreets is a must! I was very fortunate to have Sonia as my guide to share such rich experiences and history through the Napoli neighborhoods. The purveyors, producers, and shop owners were beyond gracious to share their roots. And the food… wow, let’s just repeat and go for round 2. Thank you again, Sonia! Until next time!

This was my second Culinary Backstreets tour and I couldn't have been happier. Sonia took us through a real Neapolitain neighborhood replete with the last of the sign painters, Maradona altars, and fantastic markets. We ate so much and she explained this enchanting city to us. I was also very happy with Farah and her flexibility in getting me a tour! I'll be back - maybe Athens, maybe Istanbul!

Our tour with Chiara was an immersion in Naples, with food as a starting point. We visited a small, family-run restaurant where we were the only foreigners, a cheese shop with a selection from regional cheesemakers (imagine, for example, five types of ricotta), a shop that has been specializing in the must-try classic fried food of Naples, and much more. Chiara also shared with us her native, discerning perspective on history and contemporary life in Naples - architecture, street art, cultural and social initiatives in various neighborhood, etc. This is a unique tour of life as it exists in Naples, with special foods, and the pleasure of Chiara's company. We took Chiara's other food tour of Naple's last year, and enjoyed it so much that we decided to take this tour as well. We highly recommend both.
